Constitution

ARTICLE I

Name and Objectives
Section 1. The Name of the Chapter shall be the University of Florida Chapter of the Honor Society of Agriculture, Gamma Sigma Delta.

Section 2. The objectives of the University of Florida Chapter of the Honor Society of Agriculture, Gamma Sigma Delta, shall be to encourage high standards of scholarship and proficiency in all branches of agricultural science and education and a high degree of excellence in the practice of agricultural pursuits, by the election to membership of those students of the junior, senior, and graduate classes in the College of Agriculture who have shown exceptional ability during their undergraduate or graduate work, and of those alumni and faculty members who have rendered signal service to the cause of agricultural development.

ARTICLE II

Organization
Section 1. The University of Florida Chapter of Gamma Sigma Delta is a chartered local chapter of the National Honor Society of Agriculture, Gamma Sigma Delta.

Section 2. The Chapter accepts in full the provisions in the Constitution and By-Laws of the National Society of Gamma Sigma Delta.

ARTICLE III

Membership
Section 1. The membership of this Chapter shall consist of those members of the National Society who may affiliate with it and those members who may be elected into the Society by this chapter.

Section 2. There shall be three types of elected memberships - student, faculty, and alumni.

Section 3. Student members may be chosen from the junior, senior, or the graduate class of the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences.

Undergraduate Student Qualifications: Undergraduate students nominated for membership must be considered to be of high moral character and have been in residence at least one academic year before election. In addition, juniors must have a cumulative University of Florida grade point average of 3.9 or greater, and seniors must have a cumulative University of Florida grade point average of 3.75 or greater.

Graduate Student Qualifications: Graduate students nominated for membership must be considered to be of high moral character, have demonstrated superior ability to carry on research or advanced study in agriculture (or in other sciences where the individual student's area of study or research is directly related to agriculture), and shown promise of making worthwhile contributions in his/her field. Minimum requirements for nomination, while classified 7AG, 8AG, 9AG or equivalent at the University of Florida, are:

a. Completed 12 or more credit hours

b. Cumulative grade point average of 3.75 or greater

Section 4. Faculty members may be elected from members of the faculty who have been outstanding or exceptional teachers, investigators, or administrators on the staff of the initiating institution for at least three years during which time they have been engaged in work in agriculture or in a related science. The past-president, president, and president-elect will serve as a committee to evaluate faculty nominations each year. Nominees that meet the qualifications will be recommended for election.

Section 5. Alumni members may be elected from the alumni of the College of Agriculture, University of Florida or of other institutions offering comparable degrees, who have rendered signal service to the cause of agricultural development in Florida, provided that they shall have been graduated at least five years.

Section 6. Elections to membership shall be made at meetings held for that purpose. At such meetings a committee on elections shall present a list of persons eligible to membership, according to Sections 3, 4, and 5 of this Article and according to the procedure in Article II, Section 1 of the By-Laws. Election of members from the list shall be by voice vote, unless a majority of all members present request a ballot. A three-fourths majority of all members present at the meeting shall be necessary for election.

Section 7. The active members of this Chapter shall consist of those members of Gamma Sigma Delta who have paid the annual dues as required by the University of Florida Chapter.

ARTICLE IV

Government and Officers
Section 1. The officers of this chapter shall be President, President-Elect, Secretary, Treasurer, and Historian.

Section 2. These officers shall be elected by mail ballot.
